Title:

A Rebel’s Guide to Team Creativity

Abstract:

Most research in Organizational Behavior has emphasized the value of being a team player for getting ahead at work.  The pervasive emphasis on being a team player at work may come at the cost of individual and team creativity.  In contrast, my colleagues and I have developed a theoretical perspective in which team creativity is stimulated by encouraging people to stand out, to assert their uniqueness, to be competitive, to be a misfit, to pair up with a narcissist and to break the rules.  I review existing findings and discuss opportunities for future research.
