Academia develops at the interface of different fields. This is one reason why the University of Groningen is home to a wide range of fields, each with a great number of subject specialists. The overview below, which is based on a standard categorization of fields, will help you find the right expert for each field. If you cannot find the expert you are looking for in this list, try searching via a related field or faculty; you may find him or her there.

- Experience sampling method (diary studies)
- Clinical Psychology
- Affective disorders (depression, bipolar disorder)
- Time-Series analysis, Network analysis
- Qualitative research methods
- Implementation science

I combine qualitative and quantitative research methods with the ultimate goal to investigate the potential of the experience sampling method in clinical practice. I find it important to listen to the voices of patients and clinicians and use them in my research. I strive to close the gap between science and practice as much as possible.

The focus of my PhD project is investigating risk factors linking childhood maltreatment to victimization in adulthood. The final aim of the project is to provide an evidence-based theoretical model that explains how risk factors such as attachment styles, dissociation, risky sex behavior, and emotion dysregulation, increase the chance of adulthood victimization among the survivors of childhood maltreatment. In addition, we examine how perpetrators select their victims based on non-verbal body language cues. We have used different designs and methods, including longitudinal and cross-sectional designs, quantitative and qualitative methods.

In the first 15 years of my academic career, I focused on investigating (1) (predictors of) wellbeing and adjustment in people with a chronic illness and (2) the effectiveness of psychological screening- and intervention in reducing distress/depression in chronically ill. Psychological theories on stress-coping and self-regulation guided my work and I used a wide range of different research designs to answer my research questions (e.g. longitudinal, diary, RCTs, qualitative). Since 2015, I also use my research expertise to investigate coping with stress and personal development in the context of (medical) education. This research line is embeded in SCOPE, the UMCG center of expertise on personal leadership development (SCOPE website). I am also the initiator and academic lead of the Teaching Academy Groningen (TAG) Community of Practice (CoP) on Wellbeing, aimed at creating a breeding ground for educational knowledge and expertise that helps foster wellbeing among students and staff at the UG (link). In 2020 I was appointed as adjunct professor within the UMCG talent track (impact profile Education).

Researcher (Accare)
My main research interests lie in the development of patient-centered diagnostic and risk-prediction models for use in psychiatric practice. More specifically, my research focuses on the methodological and statistical approaches that are needed to develop such models in evidence-based research. My methodological/statistical interests lie in (1) Modern Psychometrics, (2) Modeling of (intensive) longitudinal data, (3) Prediction Modeling and (4) Machine Learning.
As part of my job, I work as a statistical advisor for researchers in the UMCG Department of Psychiatry and in affiliated mental healthcare institutions.
