Participation

The goal for participation and bottom-up involvement is:

➔ By 2026, over 100% increase in active participation in ‘green initiatives’ by students and staff:

◆ 250 active ambassadors and at least four interdisciplinary green committees
◆ 60 student organizations involved in subsidies or label programmes
◆ 10 Living Lab projects from various faculties every year

Study Associations

The Green Office has two programs to increase sustainability within student organisations: the Sustainability Subsidy and the Green Label.

  • The Sustainability Subsidy program allows all associations acknowledged by CUOS to request funding in order to make their association more sustainable.
  • The Green Label program is for all associations that would like to measure how sustainable their student organisation is. Based on the scores, associations can obtain a bronze, silver or gold label.

The number of applications for subsidies and labels has increased over the years.

Sustainable Staff Committees

Staff members are also involved in making the University more sustainable. We currently have an interdisciplinary Food Group with researchers and support staff working on strategies to make the canteen greener and a Greener Lab Group of PhD students and lab technicians from FSE and UMCG working on ways to improve sustainability at labs.
