Bertus Jeronimus studies individual differences in what humans feel, think, want and do (personality) and their subjective wellbeing ("happiness") and lifespan trajectories of these phenomena and their link to stress, anxiety, depression and the socioecology in which one lives and grows, especially intimate support relationships, daily activities, adverse events, culture, and history. Jeronimus works at the University of Groningen in the Department of Psychology and in the Interdisciplinary Center Psychopathology and Emotion regulation (www.ICPE.NL). See Google.Scholar or  Researchgate for details. Currently focused on happy neurotics, the stress process, and the unfolding Covid-19 pandemic and the psychosocial consequences.

My research is characterized by a multidisciplinary approach to improve the classification of psychiatric disorders, in particular of major depression, using insights from clinical psychiatry, statistics, epidemiology, genetics, and philosophy of science. My main areas of expertise include major depressive disorder, psychiatric disease classification and statistical modeling, psychiatric genetics, and comorbidity.

Dr. L. (Lisette) van der Meer, psychologist, received her PhD in cognitive neuropsychiatry. With her research group Group for Rehabilitation and Innovation in Psychiatry (GRIP), she conducts research on cognitive rehabilitation and identity development in people with severe mental illnesses such as schizophrenia and bipolar disorders. In addition to her work for the Department of Clinical & Developmental Neuropsychology, she works as a principal investigator at Lentis at the Department for Psychiatric Rehabilitation. Thus, GRIP's research is embedded in both university and clinical practice. On GRIP's website the various projects are described in more detail and a complete publication list can also be found.

As clinician and head of the clinical training programme for residents in old age psychiatry, I am daily confronted with the lack of evidence for the treatment we offer to our older patients with psychiatric diseases. This confrontation has motivated me to devote my own research line to clinically relevant research of the common mental disorders, i.e. mood-, anxiety and somatoform disorders. Herein, my main interest lies in the interaction between somatic health and these common mental disorders.

My main research theme is the epidemiology, prevention and treatment of Mood and Anxiety Disorders, with depression as a central theme . My aim is to develop more effective interventions based on a better understanding of what goes wrong in depression, both on psychological/social and neurobiological level. For this, I work in patient cohorts such as the Netherlands Study of Depression and Anxiety (NESDA), population studies such as LIFELINES and TRAILS, the psychiatry iLab focusing on individual symptom profiles and self management, and perform pilot studies and larger clinical trials. Pathophysiological mechanisms of interest include neuroinflammation and chronobiology, but I have become more and more interested in the therapeutic potential of novel (or not so novel) psychoplastic compounds such as ketamine and psilocybin for patients with hard to treat depression and other severe mental illnesses. As a clinician and supervisor I work in our Academic Mood Disorders program.

My main research interests lie in the development of patient-centered diagnostic and risk-prediction models for use in psychiatric practice. More specifically, my research focuses on the methodological and statistical approaches that are needed to develop such models in evidence-based research. My methodological/statistical interests lie in (1) Modern Psychometrics, (2) Modeling of (intensive) longitudinal data, (3) Prediction Modeling and (4) Machine Learning.
As part of my job, I work as a statistical advisor for researchers in the UMCG Department of Psychiatry and in affiliated mental healthcare institutions.
