Study abroad for LLM students
While none of our one-year LLM progammes include studying abroad as part of their curricula*, LLM students still have the opportunity to pursue a period of study abroad as an exchange student at one of our Faculty's partner universities. This requires that an extra half year be added to the typical length of study. Usually, students are able to do this by completing the required academic commitments of their respective LLM programme here in Groningen and then maintain their student status for the following academic year by paying the applicable tuition fees. During this extra half year (semester) LLM students then undergo their period of exchange at the partner university.
Our Faculy exchange agreements with universities in Canada and the USA are reserved specifically for LLM students. This means that LLM students wanting to pursue an exchange period in these countries (and meet the requirments for such) do not have competition with bachelors level students for these exchange placements. LLM students are welcome to apply to go on exchange to partner universities in other countries as well.
To pursue this opportunity, LLM students should speak with our outgoing exchange officers at the beginning of their LLM studies and apply (through the required processes) to go on exchange for the following academic year.
The deadlines for applying for exchange are:

*Please note that while our Energy and Climate Law LLM does not involve a period studying abroad, this LLM programme does offer a double degree option in which part of the programme is completed at the partner university.
