Study strategic innovation management in Groningen and learn how to bring innovations to the market and turn them into profitable new products.
How do you build an organisation geared to innovation? And how, in a globalized world, do you protect your innovation, to make sure that you profit from it? In the MSc Business Administration - Strategic Innovation Management (MSc BA SIM) you will study the whole strategic process of managing innovations within companies and between companies. The programme is structured around the following four topics: (1) where does innovation come from; (2) how can a firm organise its activities for innovation; (3) how and with whom should a firm cooperate to maximise innovation; and (4) how can firms capture value from innovation? In doing so, the aim of this programme is to teach students how to manage a firm's innovation activities and to help turn ideas into profitable new processes, products, services and business models.
The MSc BA SIM is a strongly research-oriented programme since all our courses are designed and taught by a small group of top academic researchers. By introducing students to state-of-the-art academic research, the programme aims to give students the tools to properly understand, evaluate and solve real-life cases, and conduct their own research.
In the MSc BA SIM, you will learn about the key strategic issues regarding innovation management, from project selection, internal (re)organisation, external collaboration, and value appropriation. You will develop a solid understanding of the diversity in theories and approaches that characterise the scientific and professional field as well as the competence of critical academic thinking as core elements of your professional toolkit. To fulfil the programme requirements, you need to follow:
1. Four mandatory courses (5 EC each):
2. Three electives (5EC each), which enables you to shape your profile, and a Research & Skills clinic (5 EC), which helps you to train and develop your academic, professional and communication skills, and;
3. A Master's thesis (20 EC) on a relevant subject of your choosing and under the supervision of one of our lecturers.
