Open Courses can be attended by anyone who, for whatever reason, would like to follow one or more course units on a certain subject at academic level. There are no entry requirements. If you register for an Open Course, you will be enrolled as an observer.
What can an observer do?
Observers can follow the course unit(s) for which they are registered. At the end of the course unit they may take the examination if they wish, but this is not compulsory. In both situations they can request a participation certificate from the Student Administration Office. Please note that these certificates do not grant admission to the final examinations for the propaedeutic phase, the Bachelor’s phase or the Master’s phase.
What is an Open Course?
An Open Courseis a regular part of the curriculum, a course unit where observers are permitted to join the regular students. In other words, observers do not attend special separate courses.
How to sign up
Please use the registration form [DOCX] that can be downloaded or requested from the Student Administration Office (tel. 050 363 8421). Please submit a separate registration form for each course unit that you would like to follow.
Which course units can be followed?
The course units on the enclosed price list are a selection from the regular curriculum and may all be followed by observers. The rest of the course units in the enclosed course catalogue may also be open to observers on request. If you would like to follow a course unit that is not included in the list, please contact the Open Lectures contact person, Ms L. Timmermans, tel. 050 363 8421. She will then contact the relevant lecturer and see whether and under what conditions that course unit may be followed by an observer.
What does an Open Course cost?
The costs of an Open Course may vary as the price of a course unit is determined by the number of lectures, assignments and examinations it involves. The costs of the recommended reading material are not included in the registration fee.
- If a course unit is cancelled due to circumstances that can be considered the responsibility of the University, the registration fee, including administration costs, will be refunded.
- If you cancel in writing up to one week before the semester starts your registration fee will be reimbursed, less € 20 administration costs.
- If you cancel in writing within 8 days after the start of the course, the registration fee will be refunded, less € 20 administration costs and less 25% of the fee.
- If you cancel more than 8 days after the start of the course, no fee will be refunded.
