Prof. Marco Fraaije of the Groningen Biomolecular Sciences and Biotechnology Institute (GBB) is partner in a consortium that received a grant of the Cariplo Foundation, a major philanthropic organization based in Italy. The consortium will address the topic ‘Cracking the problem of the enzymatic conversion of glycerol to make the most of an overwhelming waste product in biodiesel production’. Fraaije received EUR 150,000 for his part in the project. The University of Pavia is coordinator.
The Lodewijk Woltjer Lecture Award is awarded to academics who have made exceptional contributions to their field.
The grant is for his project ‘Quenching the thirst for privacy: a system-theoretic approach’.
Eleven international awardees have been selected based on excellence in research, distinguished accomplishments in education, and demonstrated leadership in the chemical sciences.
