6 Top programmes FSE in Higher Education Guide Masters 2018
The recently published Higher Education Guide for Master’s degree programmes has awarded the predicate of ‘Top Rated Programme’ to 6 degree programmes at the Faculty of Science and Engineering (FSE). In addition, 7 Master’s programmes are number 1 within their programme’s category. The University of Groningen takes an overall first place among the nine classic universities of the Netherlands.
The Higher Education Guide Masters (Keuzegids Masters) assesses annually all Master’s programmes in the Netherlands. A quality assessment is given for most programmes, based on evaluations given by students in the National Student Survey (NSE) and the NVAO evaluation.
Top programmes
Some programmes are so good that the editorial board awards them the predicate Top Rated Programme. These programmes score 76 points or higher. 6 Master’s programmes at the Faculty of Science and Engineering are getting (or keeping) this predicate :

- Astronomy
- Behavioural and Cognitive Neurosciences
- Chemical Engineering
- Ecology and Evolution
- Mathematics
- Nanoscience
Number 1 in their programme's category
In addition to the Top programmes, there are Master's programmes that are the best in their category of degree programme. For example, the MSc in Artificial Intelligence is rated best amongst the 6 AI masters in the Netherlands. At our Faculty, this goes for 7 Master’s programmes:
- Astronomy
- Artificial Intelligence
- Chemistry
- Farmacie
- Human-Machine Communication
- Mathematics
- Nanoscience
Best classic Master’s University in the Netherlands
This year, the 2018 Higher Education Guide Masters rates the University of Groningen as best of nine classic universities in the Netherlands. The UG is third Master's university in the Netherlands if the technical universities are included. Last year, the University ranked second amongst classic universities.
In total, 17 Master’s programmes of the University are labelled Top programme, and 17 Master’s programmes came in number 1 in their programme’s category.
