Philosophy Student for a Day
|2020-2021: Participate online! You'll receive a guest account for attending the course and a link to the platform for meeting study advisor, a few first year students and fellow participants so you can ask us questions.|
Everyone who considers to study philosophy in Groningen is welcome to be a philosophy student for a day on one of seven or eight days in November/December and in February/March each year.
Most first year courses are taught in Dutch
Please note that most of our first year courses are given in Dutch. But since we offer an English-taught bachelor (Philosophy of a Specific Discipline), which starts in the second year of your studies, we want to be open to international students in the first year of their bachelor's too. If you'd like to make a seperate appointment to see if you'd like to study with us, please contact us and we'll see if we can find an English-taught course for you to attend.
If you decide to come to the Faculty of Philosophy to be a ‘Student for a Day’, you will attend a course with our first year students (and other Student for a Day participants). The lecture starts at 9:00 AM sharp, and is followed by a seminar (11:00 – 13:00). In the seminar, contents of the lecture and previously studied texts are discussed. We will send you the texts and questions that will be discussed, so you can prepare if you like. Of course, we don’t expect you to understand everything you’ve read. But this is the best way to experience what a philosophy student’s day looks like!
After these classes, you’ll have lunch with the other participants, a few first year students and our study advisor. That is the moment to ask all questions you may have about the programme and anything else about studying Philosophy in Groningen.
We will send you all information, like the exact day programme and texts and questions to be prepared in the week before your visit.
