Minor Programmes

Discover Your Minor

In most bachelor programmes, you have the opportunity to take a minor of 15 or 30 ECTS during the first semester of your third year. This is your chance to step outside your regular courses and explore new academic areas, deepen your expertise, or gain practical experience. You can do this through a university-wide minor, a faculty-specific minor, a personal minor, studying abroad, or an internship.

Why Choose a Minor?

A minor is more than an extra set of courses, it’s your chance to shape your own academic path. With a minor, you can:

  • Broaden your perspective by exploring topics outside your field
  • Deepen your knowledge and skills in your area of interest
  • Gain practical experience through internships
  • Study abroad and experience a new culture and academic system

Whether you want to explore something completely new, enhance your current study, or prepare for your future career, a minor lets you take control of your learning.

How to Fulfil Your Minor Space

Bachelor programmes differ in how minor spaces are offered. Here are the main options:

  • University-wide minor: Open to students from all faculties. Meet peers from diverse backgrounds while exploring a subject outside your main study.
  • Faculty-specific minor: Exclusively for students within a faculty. Deepen your knowledge in your field and sometimes prepare for specific Master’s programmes.
  • Personal minor: Build your own minor based on your interests. Approval from your programme’s board of examiners is required. Your study advisor can guide you.
  • Teacher training minor: For students in school-subject bachelor programmes. Gain hands-on teaching experience in secondary education. Completing this minor may grant a teaching qualification.
  • Study abroad: Complete your minor at a university abroad and experience a different academic environment. Speak with your study advisor for guidance.
  • Research or social internship: Some programmes allow you to fulfil your minor through an internship. Check with your study advisor for options.
  • Career Minor: A practical minor that prepares you for the workplace. You can complete it with an internship, a project, or an entrepreneurial concept. Learn more on the Career Minor website.

Who Can Apply?

University-wide minors are generally open to all bachelor students who have completed the propaedeutic phase of their programme. Master students cannot take minors as part of their master’s programme. Some minors have restrictions due to overlap with your regular courses, which will be noted in the minor description. Faculty-specific minors are reserved for students of that faculty.
