Environmental & Energy Management

The Master’s degree in Environmental and Energy Management (MEEM) is a postgraduate, academic programme focusing on every aspect of managing the environment, water and energy: policy & law, management and technology. The aim of the programme is to train future managers to develop, implement, monitor and evaluate programmes, policy and projects relating to environmental, water or energy management. The Master’s is an international programme, which is taught in English and forms part of the Twente Centre for Studies in Technology and Sustainable Development (CSTM) of the University of Twente. The University of Twente has been operating in the province of Fryslân for more than two decades and the MEEM has been on the Frisian prospectus since 1999. More than 40 different nationalities have taken the programme, making it unique of its kind.

Graduates can work as internal/external consultants for companies, government bodies and NGOs, as managers of environmental, water or energy projects or as civil servants or researchers in environmental sciences, specializing in environmental, energy or water management.

Water Technology (joint degree)

The Master programme Water Technology is offered jointly by Wageningen University, University of Twente and University of Groningen with education being provided at the WaterCampus, in Leeuwarden. In the field of water (process) technology, breakthrough technological developments are required. Not only to enable the export ambitions of the water sector but also to solve global threats and challenges in society.

A combined technological approach, based on the state-of-the-art in science and technology, may offer a solution to several developments, within business and society, with a worldwide impact on the demand for and use of water. The Master Water Technology is a two year study programme and encompasses 120 credits. The programme starts annually in September. High Tech Systems and Materials

High-Tech Systems and Materials is an intensive programme for talented Master’s students with a technical background. The programme aims to improve the match between university education and the job market, and to introduce students to high-tech research and development in the north-eastern region. The HTSM Master’s Honours pathway was developed jointly by UCF, the University of Groningen, the University of Twente and Philips Consumer Lifestyle. It is one of the first Dutch Master´s programmes to be based on a public-private partnership. Like other pathways of excellence at the University of Groningen, this programme is designed to deepen and broaden your knowledge of HTSM.

Bachelor of Law (Dutch)

The first year of the Dutch bachelor pogramme of Law is offered in Leeuwarden. Students take the exact same courses and exams as in Groningen. Each year approximately 40 students choose to do their first year in Leeuwarden, after which they continue their studies in Groningen.
