Samenvatting:

Greater differences in standardized mortality per district were observed among males than among females (population aged 20-64 years). Education and unemployment, but not income, contributed to the prediction of the mortality for males but not females. The proportion of the Roma population is a very important determinant of regional infant mortality for the Slovak population, even more than socioeconomic indicators (education, unemployment). Income has significant effect on infant mortality in Slovak districts.
