Summary:
The study population consisted of nurses working in a regional hospital in the Dutch province Friesland employing a total of 1153 persons. The next research questions where examined:
- Associations between the frequency of previous sickness absence and self-reported perceptions of health and work
- The relationship between coping styles and sickness absence in healthcare
- The relationship between coping styles (active and passive) and sickness absence in healthcare in Norway and the Netherlands
- To determine the agreement between occupational physicians' (OP) ratings of an employee's readiness (i.e. ability and willingness) to return to work
- To investigate the associations between leadership styles, according to the theory of situational leadership, and registered sickness absence
- To investigate changes of nurse managers in relation to registered sickness absence among the nursing staff
- The influence of training supervisor in effective leadership on sickness absence of their employees
- To investigate the characteristics of zero-absentees
