De Nationale Studenten Enquête (dutch only)

What is de NSS?

The National Student Survey (NSS) is an annual national survey in which students can voice their opinion about their degree programme. The University of Groningen takes part in this survey. The Faculty of Law also highly appreciates your opinion about your degree programme. Your feedback is essential for better student support, education, and facilities. So, your opinion matters!

How does it work?

Each year in January you will receive an invitation to participate via your student mail with a link to the survey. Participating will take about 15 minutes.

The 2024 results can be found on UG’s website. For example, previous surveys indicated that:

  • Students want more focus on acquiring skills for professional practice
Partly for this reason, we have included the compulsory Law in Practice component in our LLM programmes. Students can use this Law in Practice component for e.g., an internship, consulting work in a legal aid clinic or participation in a moot court, master classes, etc.
In addition, the Groningen Centre for Legal Skills was established. This centre develops supplementary education materials aimed at supporting students in acquiring and strengthening their legal skills.

  • Students find the connection with professional practice open to improvement
Party because of this, many career events such as the Law Career Weeks, the ‘Baanbreaking’-event and internship infuriation sessions are organised by Careers Services Law. Individual career conversations can take place with the Faculty Career Coach and various guest lectures are given by professionals from the legal profession.

  • Students felt our assessment policy could be improved
Students said they would like to receive more feedback on papers, among other things. Therefore, a new format was introduced for paper assessment: feedback papers. When this format is used, the student receives feedback on the draft version of the paper at least once. In the implementation of the new assessment policy, there are more opportunities for informal assessment moments in which feedback is expected.

Final remarks

Study advice has our firm attention. Consequently, the number of study advisers working at our Faculty has increased considerably in recent years. There is also the possibility of making an appointment via an online appointment system and Student Service Law can also be contacted via WhatsApp.
