05 November 2014

Six University of Groningen Bachelor's degree programmes have been awarded the ‘Top Degree Programme’ quality label in this year’s Keuzegids Universiteiten (Guide to Dutch Universities). Ten Groningen degree programmes were assessed as the best in their category. In the list of Best Universities, the University of Groningen is in second place in the category ‘General Classical University’.

Top Degree Programme

The Guide awards the Top Degree Programme label to Bachelor's programmes that score at least 76 points. The six degree programmes at the University of Groningen that are at the top of Dutch university education according to this standard are Applied Physics (76 points), Archaeology (78 points), Philosophy (76 points), Religious Studies (76 points), Theology (88 points) and Mathematics (86 points).

Ten Groningen programmes best in their category

A degree programme can also be the best in its category in the Netherlands, without achieving the Top Degree Programme predicate. The ten Groningen programmes that are the best in their category are: Archaeology, Art History, Business Administration, English Language and Culture, Human Movement Sciences, Mathematics, Pharmacy, Religious Studies, Spatial Planning and Design and Theology.

The Keuzegids Universiteiten (Guide to Dutch Universities) is published annually by the Centre for Higher Education Information (CHOI; Centrum Hoger Onderwijs Informatie) and is intended for secondary school pupils and counsellors who want to find out more about higher education. The assessments in the Guide are based on student evaluations, the national degree programme choice database Studiekeuze123 and visitation reports. There is a separate Guide for Master’s degree programmes. It is published in February.
