Digital Humanities Day 2014

28 October 2014

On October the 31st the Digital Humanities Day will take place. The day is an initiative from the new Digital Humanities Center of Groningen. In this Centre researches from the intersections of computer science and the humanities cooperate.

The increasing availability and accessibility of big data challenges scholars in various disciplines. They need to develop new theories, methods and technologies to study and present research data sets to the academic community and society. In order to expand the traditional scope of the humanities, the Center brings the strengths of various disciplines together.

The program

During the program keynote lecturer Professor Gerhard Lauer (University of Göttingen) will speak about humanities in the digital age. On the day you can participate on one of the three hands-on workshops, research pitches and a lunch at the University Library.

  • A keynote by prof. Gerhard Lauer (University of Göttingen): ‘Sorry, I have digitized my scholarship: Humanities in the digital age’
  • Hands-on workshops on ‘Using Social Media Data in Research, ‘Geographical Information Systems’ and ‘Text and Image Recognition’
  • Research pitches on projects in the field of Digital Humanities
  • Lunch at the University Library and a presentation of the SHA_RE art work
