Digital learning environment
Blackboard is the university-wide digital learning environment at the University of Groningen, where it is known as Nestor. It is integrated in the student portal which may be accessed directly at https://nestor.rug.nl. Blackboard (Nestor) offers lecturers the option to provide and support education via the internet. It does not replace existing teaching methods, but provides new opportunities and can lead to a reconsideration of the way in which teaching and learning are organized. Blackboard (Nestor) offers lecturers a range of educational options: it can serve as a source of information, as an instructional tool, as a means of communication and as an evaluation tool.
Google Workspace for Education Fundamentals (previously G Suite for Education) is a set of Google applications with a special licence for educational institutions. Google Workspace for Education Fundamentals includes tools that you know already such as GMail and Calendar, but also some tools that you may be less familiar with such as Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides, Sites, Classroom and many more - and several extensions to these. The core of Google Workspace for Education Fundamentals are office applications, similar in to MS Office applications. On these pages we will focus on using these for educational purposes, particularly Google Drive and Google Docs.
General information about GMail and Calendar may be found elsewhere (requires login) on the university website, so we will not discuss these here.
