Merel Keijzer appointed Professor of English Linguistics & English as a Second Language
Merel Keijzer has been appointed Professor of Linguistics & English as a Second Language at the Faculty of Arts of the University of Groningen as of 1 January 2019.
Merel Keijzer performs her research on second language acquisition and bilingualism, with a special focus on multilingualism and aging. What is the best way (for the elderly) to learn English and can English learning have a positive effect on (mental) health? In her new position as Professor she will focus on developing education in the field of English linguistics and English language development, from primary school to bilingual secondary education, as well as conduct research into existing English language methods, language education to the elderly and cognitive effects.
Merel Keijzer's research will be conducted at the Center for Language and Cognition Groningen (CLCG), with the Neurolinguistics and Language Development research group. She is also involved in the activities of the research institute Behavioral and Cognitive Neurosciences (BCN) and the Landelijke Onderzoekschool Taalwetenschap, LOT (National Research School for Linguistics).
