Ann-Sophie Lehmann appointed Professor of Modern and Contemporary Art

Ann-Sophie Lehmann was appointed Professor of Modern and Contemporary Arts at the Faculty of Arts on 1 January.

Ann-Sophie Lehmann studied Art History, History and Philosophy at the University of Vienna and Art History at Utrecht University and was awarded a PhD in 2004 for her thesis In the Flesh. Jan van Eyck's Adam and Eve Panels and the Making of the Northern Nude. In 2002, Lehmann moved into media studies and worked as assistant professor and since 2011 as associate professor in the Department of Media and Culture Studies, Utrecht University. Starting in May 2015, she holds a three-month research fellowship at the Max-Planck Institute for the History of Science, Berlin.

Lehmann has an excellent reputation based on her innovative research into materials, tools, and practices in the visual arts. She will focus, amongst others, on further collaboration with the Art Academy and the Groninger Museum. The University of Groningen and the Groninger Museum recently set up a unique training programme for post graduate students to become museum curators.
