Welcome

Welcome to this introduction page of the master programmes offered by the UG!

On the pages of this website (see the menu below) you will find everything you need to make a good start with your studies. You will find information about your timetable, your University of Groningen account, study books and much more.

Over the coming weeks, activities and news concerning your programme will be updated regularly on this webpage. It is important to revisit this page frequently and thereby ensure you keep up to date.

Registering at the University of Groningen

You must register as a student at the UG before 1 September 2024. Studielink provides an overview of everything you will need to arrange, including ID, qualifications and payment of tuition fees. You will not be able to start the degree programme unless all these matters have been arranged by 1 September 2024.

More information can be found here. Please contact the UG Information Services, if you have any further questions or need help.

Practical information for international students

Welcoming Ceremony international students

We expect you to participate in the Welcoming Ceremony for international students organized by the University. The Welcoming Ceremony will take place on Thursday 29 August at MartiniPlaza. You will receive an invitation to the event approximately 1.5 months in advance, so make sure to keep an eye on your inbox!

A lot of information will be given at this event to ease your stay in the Netherlands, for example:

  • how to open a bank account
  • how to apply for a residence permit
  • health insurance
  • accommodation/housing
  • registration at city hall

Practical information about studying and living in Groningen can be found here.

Practical information

Please check the following ‘to do’ list to make sure you are properly prepared when you start your degree programme.

Please be aware that you require a studentnumber, before you gain access to the StudentPortal, Progress and your student mail.

Course enrolment

As a Master's student, you are expected to enroll for your courses yourself. More information on this can be found on the webpage concerning the enrolment for course units. The course enrolment for Master's courses opens 17 June 2024. If you need help with your enrolment, please consult the secretariat of the programme.

Functional impairment

If you have ADD, ADHD, ASS, dyslexia or another functional impairment that might affect your studies or study progress, please check this SSC link. If you would like to apply for special provisions, please check this Information tool and also contact your study advisor as soon as possible.

Buying readers and compulsory literature

Readers

Readers can be ordered from early August onwards via Canon. The readers will be delivered to your home. Make sure to order your readers on time.

Compulsory literature

The Online Course Catalogue (Ocasys) provides overviews of the literature that you must buy for each course unit. You can order the books yourself from a high-quality bookshop, or join the study association of your programme and order all the literature at a discount.
