Over the past two decades Alain Badiou has emerged as the most widely read and prominent French thinker. Badiou’s work covers such vast questions as ontology, truth, aesthetics and love. But perhaps foremost Badiou’s thinking is placed under the sign of politics. In his work, Badiou formulates a radical emancipatory politics – a politics of radical equality, a contemporary communism.
In his lecture, Joost de Bloois (UvA) will provide an introduction to the philosophy of Alain Badiou. In particular, he will explore the (possible) nexus between art and politics in Badiou. Can we speak, with Badiou, of a ‘communism in the arts’?
The lecture is organized by Faculty of Arts (KCM) and the Faculty of Philosophy (ESPF, GF) - Thijs Lijster and Eddo Evink
