Oratie: Van der Zaag over bio-nanotechnologie en moleculaire beeldvorming

Wanneer een wetenschapper tot hoogleraar (professor) wordt benoemd, houdt hij of zij een oratie: een openbare rede van maximaal 30 minuten in de aula van de universiteit voor een publiek. Vaak gaat deze rede over het onderzoeksgebied van de nieuw benoemde hoogleraar en diens visie daarop.

Drawing on my experience in industry, I will discuss guidelines for making discoveries and inventions driving innovation. Also insights will be shared  on translating scientific and technical results into products as well as collaborating effectively in multidisciplinary and multinational environments. I will outline applications of these experiences in the fields of bio-nanotechnology and molecular imaging through my joint appointment in the Faculty of Science and Engineering and the Faculty of Medical Sciences, with the aim of strengthening collaboration between both faculties. Finally, I will discuss the areas in which we aim to drive innovation in medtech, with a particular focus on bringing novel cancer diagnostics into clinical practice.
