Science LinX @ Noorderzon

19 August 2010

Science LinX, FSE's science center, will be presenting at the Noorderzon Qu3 installation – a 1000 m3 cube bringing art and science together – starting on Thursday, August 19, 2010. Qu3 is an initiative of the Groningen Science Center, a collaboration between Groningen’s educational institutions. On August 19, the cube will be opened by Mayor Rehwinkel.

To showcase the curiosity and discovery of scientific research, a number of interactive exhibits from Science LinX will temporarily move to the cube for its 10-day run. Visitors will be challenged to leave the familiar behind. For example, by using ‘augmented reality’ to bring researchers to life within the installation ‘Macht-tig’ (created with support from the Dutch Nanopodium), in which an extra visual layer is projected on top of reality. Or at a football match between robot fish. Or by ordering their own DNA at the UMCG’s DNA Bar.

Workshops and Qu4mance
Each day, a Qu4mance – a lecture, performance or debate – will be held in the cube. There is also a daily program of workshops, in which participants are challenged to create the longest chain reaction in ‘Lauf der Dinge’ competition, or to become a bit batty using the sonar goggles in ‘Bat Sounds’.

Art Meets Science

Especially for Qu3 Science LinX cooperates with the artists Chantalla Pleiter, Tarik Barri and Teackele Soepboer. The result allows us to marvel at the installations ‘Ficus Benjaminnen’ and ‘Het GeluidsUniversum’. Here, too, visitors explore boundaries, interacting with talking plants, or creating their own universe in the planetarium at the top of the cube.
