Master’s student Industrial Engineering and Management Ana Lazar wins GUF 100 Prize

At the UG Ceremony of Merits on July 4, Ana Lazar was awarded the GUF 100 Prize, making her the best student of the Faculty of Science and Engineering 2024-2025. Ana is a master's student Industrial Engineering and Management. She was chosen by the jury of the Groningen University Fund (GUF) out of three FSE students, nominated by students and teaching staff of the faculty earlier this year.
The prize consists of a scholarship for study or research worth EUR 2,500 and is annually awarded to the best student of each faculty.
Inspired future teacher
Ana holds a bachelor's degree in both Industrial Engineering and Management (IEM) and Philosophy of Social and Economic Sciences. Besides her studies, Ana was a student member of the jury for the best practice award, a coach in a learning community and was a teaching assistant on several occasions. Following, but certainly connecting two very different disciplines (engineering versus philosophy) helps her realise her real passion, which is explaining difficult topics well. After her inspiring pitch in which she spoke clearly about her ambition to become a teacher, the jury judged: 'Ana clearly knows how to communicate information in the right manner, at the right time, and also in an enjoyable way. In short, we believe that she has everything in her to fulfil her ambitions.'
Nominated by students and teaching staff
Ana Lazar was chosen from the faculty candidates who were nominated by FSE students and teaching staff earlier this year. A total of 50 students were nominated, of which the faculty jury had presented three to the GUF-100 jury: Daniel Cortild (MSc Applied Mathematics), Jana Radakovic (BSc Biomedical Engineering) en Ana Lazar (MSc Industrial Engineering Management).
UG Ceremony of Merits
The GUF 100 prizes have been awarded during the UG Ceremony of Merits on July 4. With the Ceremony of Merits, the UG wants to honor staff and students that made exceptional contributions to the university.
