Mariano Méndez receives Argentine RAÍCES award

Mariano Méndez, Professor of High Energy Astrophysics at the University of Groningen, has received the prestigious Argentine 'Premio RAÍCES 2025' (ROOTS award). This national award is presented by the Argentine Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation to scientists abroad who make exceptional contributions to the international visibility of Argentine science and to the training of young researchers.
The prize was awarded for Méndez's leading scientific contributions to the astrophysics of compact objects, such as black holes and neutron stars, and his long-standing commitment to international capacity building. In particular, his role in creating training and research opportunities for young Argentine scientists through international workshops, scholarships and collaboration programmes was highlighted.
With this award, Argentina recognises both the scientific impact of Méndez's research and his ongoing commitment to developing the next generation of researchers and strengthening international scientific networks.
