Maria Antonietta Loi honored as Materials Research Society Fellow

Prof. Maria Antonietta Loi of the Faculty of Science and Engineering (University of Groningen) is appointed as Fellow of the Materials Research Society (MRS). This recognition is awarded to outstanding researchers in materials science who have demonstrated distinguished service to the field.
Loi has been recognized for advancing the understanding of the physical properties of organic semiconductors, colloidal quantum dots and metal halide perovskite favoring their exploitation in optoelectronic devices.
Impact on scientific community
Election to the MRS Fellows program is highly selective, Fellows are chosen based on their outstanding achievements in materials science and their impact on the broader scientific community. Loi is deeply thankful for this recognition: ‘Being named an MRS Fellow is a tremendous honor, and I am grateful to the University of Groningen for providing me with an excellent environment, as well as to the many talented students who have worked with me over the years.’
About Maria Antoinetta Loi
Maria Antonietta Loi (1973) holds two world records to her name: that of the best-performing solar cell made with quantum dots and made with “Sn-based perovskites” - an inexpensive base material for efficient solar panels. Loi possesses the perfect combination of creativity, vision and transdisciplinary knowledge needed to make the solar cell of the future. By uncovering physical principles and manipulating materials down to the nanoscale, she translates fundamental physics into concepts useful for the energy transition. Her work has yielded patents, startups and close collaboration with industry. Loi is also a passionate and knowledgeable educator.
Being named an MRS Fellow is a tremendous honor, and I am grateful to the University of Groningen for providing me with an excellent environment, as well as to the many talented students who have worked with me over the years.
About the Materials Research Society
The Materials Research Society (MRS) is an international organization established in 1973 of almost 14,000 materials researchers from academia, industry and government, and a recognized leader in promoting the advancement of interdisciplinary materials research and technology to improve the quality of life.
