Master’s student Chemistry Eneja Paradiž wins GUF 100 Prize

At the UG Ceremony of Merits on July 3, Eneja Paradiž was awarded the GUF 100 Prize, making her the best student of the Faculty of Science and Engineering 2025-2026. Eneja is a 1st year Master's student in Chemistry. She was chosen by the jury not only because of her outstanding marks and portfolio but also because she held a clear pitch about a very complex subject. 

She was selected out of three FSE students, nominated by students and teaching staff of the faculty earlier this year. The prize consists of a scholarship for study or research worth EUR 2,500 and is annually awarded to the best student of each faculty.

In a wider area of academic skills 

Eneja is a first-year Master’s student in Chemistry, and has secured very high marks throughout the programme. She attained summa cum laude (average mark: 9.1) for her Bachelor’s degree, and her marks for the Master’s programme are not far below this (average mark so far: 9.0). Her supervisor praised her knowledge and originality: Eneja not only stands out in her research into developing new tracers for the latest generation of mass spectrometers, but also excels herself in a wider area of academic skills. She is able to express her point of view succinctly and convincingly and has followed the Honours College programme, taken a minor in Psychology and also studied English literature during a Summer School. She is a member of both the programme committee and the Chemistry and Chemical Engineering information team, a member of the board of the ‘Betastuf’ student association, and also a research assistant, mentor, and student assistant. She is described as a positive, enthusiastic individual, a quality that was clearly endorsed during the pitch she held for the GUF-100 jury.

Nominated by students and teaching staff

Eneja Paradiž was chosen from the faculty candidates who were nominated by students and teaching staff of the Faculty of Science and Engineering earlier this year. A total of 45 students were nominated, of which the faculty jury had presented three to the GUF-100 jury: Zalán Novák (BSc in Physics and BSc in Astronomy) , Eneja Paradiž (BSc and MSc in Chemistry and Honours College) and Aleksandar Todorov (BSc in Applied Mathematics and BSc and MSc in Artificial Intelligence).

UG Ceremony of Merits

The GUF 100 prizes were awarded during the UG Ceremony of Merits on July 3. With the Ceremony of Merits, the UG wants to honour staff and students that made exceptional contributions to the university. Besides the GUF-100 prizes, the Nicolaas Mulerius Fund thesis prize was awarded to Sanne Smith-Apeldoorn (UMCG) and Jonas Bornemann (Faculty of Law) received the Gratama Science Award.
