University Teaching Qualification (BKO/UTQ) - Information for PhD students

The University Teaching Qualification (UTQ) is a qualification that university lecturers, assistant, associate and full professors have to obtain in order to be authorized to teach to bachelor and master students. Normally the training for obtaining this certificate is not followed by PhD students because they do not have enough teaching experience yet and they do not have the time: in fact the UTQ training is very time intensive (160h) and costly (2700 Euro). However, in exceptional cases where the PhD student already has considerable teaching experience, s/he can be admitted to follow part or all of the training, which is provided by the Staff Development team of Educational Support & Innovation (ESI).

The training is university specific, more information can be found on the ESI website. PhD-students whose supervisors support them in following this training and who have secured funding for the training, can follow the same procedure described in the cited webpage for teaching staff members to register.
