Teaching programmes

The Wubbo Ockels School uses teaching programmes and materials in a variety of ways to teach interdisciplinary collaboration:

  • Basic programmes to stimulate interdisciplinary teaching and impart basic knowledge. These may include modes of instruction for lecturers and students from different domains, such as podcasts and MOOCs.
  • Programmes at intermediate level to stimulate interdisciplinary teaching. These may include solving societal problems suggested by businesses or the government, for example via ‘challenges’ with students and academics from different domains within the University.
  • Advanced programmes to stimulate interdisciplinary teaching. These may include questions that can be solved by students and professionals at various different levels (from vocational education to university), from different knowledge institutions and in different domains, for example via research into solutions to societal issues.

Range

The concrete range of teaching programmes is still being developed. Here are a few examples of what the Wubbo Ockels School is currently working on:

  • a Minor on climate mitigation and adaptation, together with University College Groningen and Campus Fryslân
  • a minor on Climate Change and Inequality, led by researchers from the Faculty of Theology and Religious Studies in collaboration with researchers from the Faculty of Arts
  • a summerschool Energy Challenges - an interdisciplinary approach. This summerschool looks at the challenges of a hydrogen economy. Is hydrogen the answer in our quest to halt climate change?
  • a hackathon Hydrogen, in collaboration with Impact Hydrogen
  • informing students by analysing and communicating about all of the existing teaching activities relating to energy and climate
  • making an inventory of any additional student wishes for new course units (in collaboration with the Green Office)
  • International collaboration within the Enlight programme
