Smart Grids: towards a joint innovation agenda for energy and ICT?

Special session for alumni and partners of the Energy Academy Europe

Van Swinderen Huys, Oude Boteringestraat 19, 9712 GC Groningen

The debate starts at 15.30 and will be followed by a reception, starting at 17.00.

Our energy system is changing rapidly as we head into a transition towards clean, reliable, efficient and affordable energy . The drivers of change are the growing share of renewable energy and the decentralization of energy production, the growing interconnection between the (national or regional) energy systems, and the development of an international liberalized energy market in combination with different regional or even national regulatory frameworks. These dynamics sometimes lead to tensions in existing technical, financial and social arrangements.

What is the role of smart systems, at the intersection of energy and digital technology, in rethinking, rewiring or re-inventing our energy infrastructure?

In this special session, we invite experts from energy and ict to debate the feasibility and desirability of a joint innovation agenda for knowledge institutions and companies, where ICT and energy intersect.
