ENLIGHT–ETHYC Autumn School 2026: The Hydrogen Valley Experience - Interdisciplinary Perspectives on the Hydrogen Transition
How does the hydrogen transition look when we move beyond technology and consider the economic, business and legal questions that come with it?
The ENLIGHT–ETHYC Autumn School – The Hydrogen Valley Experience brings students, researchers and professionals together in Groningen for two days of interdisciplinary learning and first-hand experience of the Hydrogen Valley in the North of the Netherlands.
The programme combines academic perspectives with interactive learning and visits to key locations in the regional hydrogen ecosystem. Participants will explore the hydrogen transition from the perspectives of business, economics and law, while meeting researchers, industry professionals and other participants from different disciplines and countries.
What can you expect?
The two-day programme includes the interactive We Energy Game, an introduction to the Hydrogen Valley in the North, a visit to EnTranCe, interdisciplinary lectures on the business, economic and legal dimensions of hydrogen, and a visit to Groningen Seaports in Delfzijl.
The Autumn School concludes with a discussion on the Future of Hydrogen in the North, bringing together different perspectives on the opportunities and challenges ahead.
Programme at a glance
Tuesday, 6 October – Exploring the Hydrogen Transition
The programme starts at 09:00 at the University of Groningen. The first day introduces participants to the Hydrogen Valley and combines interactive learning with academic perspectives. Activities include the We Energy Game, a visit to EnTranCe, and sessions focusing on the business and economic dimensions of the hydrogen transition. The day concludes with reflection and a joint dinner.
Wednesday, 7 October – From Knowledge to Practice
The second day explores the legal dimension of the hydrogen transition, followed by a visit to Groningen Seaports in Delfzijl to experience developments in the regional hydrogen ecosystem first-hand. Back in Groningen, the Autumn School concludes with a panel discussion on the Future of Hydrogen in the North. The programme finishes at approximately 17:00.

Who can participate?
The Autumn School welcomes final-year Bachelor’s students, Master’s students, PhD candidates, postdoctoral researchers and professionals with an interest in hydrogen, energy and the broader energy transition.
Participants from ENLIGHT universities and beyond are welcome.
Participation is free of charge. Participants are responsible for their own travel, accommodation and other personal expenses.
