Research and PhD positions

We regularly have vacancies for researchers/PhD students, usually for longer research projects (on average 4 years). Our section has room for passionate, results-driven academics who independently conduct research and collaborate with national and international colleagues in a friendly atmosphere. Professionals from the field can also conduct research and gain their PhD within our section via secondment.
Our current vacancies can be found in the News section, and we recommend you also check the UMCG and University of Groningen vacancies pages.

Researchers/PhD students may participate in the courses and activities offered by the Graduate School of Medical Science . Together with the researcher/PhD student in question we will draw up a Training and Supervision plan, detailing which courses, workshops and other activities he or she will participate in. In addition, PhD students and researchers are also given the opportunity to gain teaching experience, in the Bachelor’s phase of the Medical degree programme of the University of Groningen.

We are responsible for the English-taught course unit Epidemiology of Public Health within the Research Master offered by the Graduate School of Medical Science. This course unit focuses on acquiring academic skills, such as writing grant proposals. The Research Master is open to both EU and non-EU citizens.

Medical degree programme

The staff of the section provide teaching in the field of Public Health to students of Medicine as well as students of other faculties within the University of Groningen/UMCG. Staff members also supervise students in writing their theses.

In addition, Public Health is one of the compulsory clerkships in the Master’s degree programme (M2). Clerkships can be completed in the Netherlands, with eight affiliate hospitals to choose from, including the St. Elisabeth Hospital in Curaçao. Clerkships abroad are possible under certain conditions.
