Studying abroad: ‘Look at the world from a different perspective’

Accommodation abroad

Accommodation arrangements vary per host university.

Most universities abroad will help you find accommodation – some have rooms available on a campus and others will assist in finding private accommodation. Accommodation is often difficult to find so the sooner you contact the host university the better.

Accommodation via host universities cannot be guaranteed, so start making arrangements in good time, for example by contacting exchange students in Groningen – they will undoubtedly be able to help you get started.

Subletting your room in the Netherlands

If you would like to sublet your room while you are studying abroad: there is a shortage of furnished rooms for incoming exchange students, particularly in August/September. The SSH can help you arrange the lease of your room to one of your fellow international students and draw up a contract. The University of Groningen and the Mobility Office are not involved in this.

In addition, the Facebook pages for Prospective Students in Groningen and the International Office are also good channels for subletting your room to temporary students in Groningen.

Check with your landlord if you are allowed to sublet your room.
