"The Feeling of Being Watched" by Cinema Politica Groningen, follows journalist Assia Boundaoui’s courageous and shocking investigation of the racist surveillance programs which target her majority-Muslim community in Chicago. The film gives the lingering paranoia and hatefulness of post-9/11 western politics a haunting immediacy and intimacy as Assia, her family, and her colleagues seek justice and accountability for the government’s intrusion in their lives.

After the screening, there will be an opportunity to participate in a Q&A session with Jennifer Schnepf (Assistant Professor of American Studies) and Dan Leberg (Assistant Professor of Film and Media Studies) on surveillance cultures, islamophobia, and the intersection of journalistic and documentary storytelling.

Jennifer Schnepf is an award-winning researcher and author on American imperialism and surveillance technologies. Her current research examines the relationship between western military drones and representations of American femininity and domesticity.

Dan Leberg does interdisciplinary research on film, television, and videogame production cultures. He is also the former Programming Coordinator of the Cinema Politica Network.

All Cinema Politca screenings are free to attend, no registration needed.
