Marjolijn Verspoor has been appointed Professor of English Linguistics and English as a Second Language. Verspoor is a linguist and a renowned expert in the field of the English language and second-language acquisition, specializing in language development. As a professor, she will focus mainly on research into contemporary English, in particular the acquisition of English as a second language from a usage-based perspective. In the wider field of linguistics and language proficiency teaching, she will collaborate extensively with the related chairs in Linguistics,
including the new chair in Language and Society in a European Perspective and
that in Applied Linguistics.
Verspoor previously worked as Associate Professor of English Linguistics at the Faculty of Arts of the University of Groningen.
