Faculty of Behavioural and Social Sciences
The Faculty of Behavioural and Social Sciences of the UG excels in teaching and research in the fields of behaviour, thinking, learning and how people live together. We want to continue developing our well-founded theoretical and methodological knowledge domains: psychology, sociology, pedagogy, educational sciences and teaching methodology.
The Faculty aims for a leading position in studying and solving social issues and problems people encounter in everyday life. Our ambition is to develop and assess scientifically substantiated interventions, in consultation with social parties. We aim to develop the Faculty infrastructure for empirical research to a leading global level.
Our teaching aims to impart an academic attitude to students and teach them to independently conduct research. Small groups of students work on research assignments together with their lecturers. Learning and researching together is the best possible preparation for future academics for professional practice.
The Faculty aims to be the best in the Netherlands when it comes to the quality of its education. To this end we invest significantly in the professionalization of our lecturers. Lecturers from different fields together develop activating modes of instruction, new ways of testing and challenging research assignments in professional learning communities.
In everything we do our aim is to establish a connection: between students and lecturers, between different fields, between science and practice and between cultures. We embrace diversity and search for what can bring people and fields of research together. Together we are better.
