Mathematics entry requirements

If you are interested in applying for one of the 30/45 EC Pre-Master or 60 EC Pre-MSc Accountancy and Controlling programmes you may need to prove that you have a sufficient level of Mathematics before you start the MSc programme.

You are exempted from providing a Mathematics test if you:

  • apply for Accountancy and Controlling for HBO Accountancy, or for Accountancy and Controlling for HBO Business Economics and HBO-Finance & Control,
  • apply for the Pre-MSc International Financial Management, Pre-MSc Finance or Pre-MSc Supply Chain Management & Technology and Operations Management (an advanced mathematics course is included in the programme, so adequate mathematics background is desirable),
  • apply for the Pre-MSc Econometrics, Operations Research and Actuarial Studies (EORAS) programme. You need to have an advanced mathematics level which will be assessed by the Admissions board,
  • apply for the PreMSc Economics or the Pre-MSC Economics for HBO. You need a solid background at mathematics (level VWO B or A) to have the right entry level.

What level of Mathematics is required?

The level depends on the previous diploma you obtained. Check the table below to find out what level you need.

Dutch diploma students

If you have a diploma from a University of Applied Sciences (HBO) or Research University (WO) in the Netherlands, you may need to prove before the start of your Master's programme that you have passed Mathematics A or B at VWO level.

International diploma students

If you will apply with an international diploma, you may need to prove before the start of your Master's programme, that you passed Mathematics as a standard/methods level subject or a higher level (advanced) subject. Check here the VWO equivalent qualifications to see if you meet the requirements. The level of mathematics will need to be assessed individually by the Admissions Board. Often you will be required to hand in course descriptions of your Mathematics courses.
