Academic Ranking of World Universities (#66)
The Academic Ranking of World Universities (ShanghaiRanking) is a global top 500, published annually by ShanghaiRanking Consultancy. In this ranking, the University of Groningen can be found in the 66th place (2018). In addition to this impressive overall score, the University falls within the global top 100 for several specific fields and subjects.
THE World University Rankings (#79)
The British magazine Times Higher Education publishes a ranking of universities around the world. In addition to performance in the field of research and education, it also considers the international reputation of the institution. In this ranking, the University of Groningen is at position 79.
QS World University Rankings (#114)
The QS World University Rankings, published annually, is an influential ranking list of institutions of higher education. In the 2019-2020 edition, published on 20 June 2019, the University of Groningen holds the 114th position on this list of over 900 universities worldwide.
U.S. News ‘Best Global Universities Ranking’ (#101)
The American journal U.S. News publishes a worldwide ranking list of universities based on data from Clarivate Analytics, the company that publishes the citation database Web of Science (WoS). In addition to the reputation among academics (25%), the research performance derived from the WoS is also taken into account (75%). The University of Groningen takes an overall 101st place in this ranking.
University Ranking by Academic Performance (#63)
The University Ranking by Academic Performance (URAP) is a ranking of the 2000 universities with the highest number of publications, based on Thomson Reuters' Web of Science (WoS). The position of an institution is based on absolute numbers of WoS publications and citations (52% weighting factor), relative citation impact (33%), and the number of WoS publications with international co-authors (15%). The University of Groningen is placed 63rd in the list, based on an average taken across 23 subject areas. The University ranks in the global top 100 in no fewer than 12 out of 20 subject areas.
The Keuzegids Higher Education Guide includes descriptions of all higher education programmes officially registered in the Netherlands. The guide offers a quality assessment for most programmes based, among other, on student evaluations and reports from the NVAO. In total, 69 bachelor programs in the Netherlands have been named a ‘Top Rated Program’, of which ten are being taught at the UG. Besides this, eight further undergraduate programs offered at the UG belong to the best within their category. This makes the UG one of the highest scoring higher educational institutes within the Netherlands.
