Burattini, Tito Livio

The Italian Tito Livio Burattini (1617 - 1681), son from a local noble family, was an inventor, architect, Egyptologist, scientist, instrument-maker, traveller, engineer, and nobleman.
He developed a system of measurement. It includes the metro cattolico, a unit of length equivalent to the length of a free seconds pendulum, which differs from the modern meter by half a centimeter. He was the first to recommend the name meter for the unit of length.
