Compton effect

In the Compton effect, a photon is scattered by an electron. The scattered photon has a lower energy than the original one. The effect is named after the American physicist Arthur Holly Compton (1892 - 1962).

History

The scattering experiments in 1923 by the American physicist Arthur Holly Compton provided proof of the particle nature of light.
