Harry Garretsen
Harry Garretsen

Harry Garretsen is hoogleraar International Economics and Business aan de RUG. Hij studeerde economie aan de Rijksuniversiteit Groningen en promoveerde daar in 1991. Daarna werkte hij bij De Nederlandsche Bank en was hij hoogleraar economie aan de Radboud Universiteit in Nijmegen en de Universiteit van Utrecht. Garretsen is gespecialiseerd in macro- en internationale economie en tevens expert op het gebied van leiderschap en het functioneren van organisaties.

Hij mengt zich geregeld in de publieke discussie over bijvoorbeeld globalisering of economisch- en politiek leiderschap via de Groene Amsterdammer, Trouw, NRC Handelsblad of Het Financieele Dagblad. Zijn streven niet alleen voor vakgenoten actief te zijn, blijkt ook uit zijn redactielidmaatschap van het online discussieforum voor economen, Me Judice. Samen met prof.dr. Janka Stoker leidt Garretsen het onderzoekscentrum In the LEAD. Zie In the LEAD voor meer informatie, waaronder hun blogs.  

Garretsen was van 2004-2014 plaatsvervangend kroonlid van de SER en van 2011-2016 decaan van de Faculteit Economie en Bedrijfskunde van de RUG. Thans is hij lid van de Bankraad van de De Nederlandsche Bank, lid van de Raad van Commissarissen van het Waarborgfonds Sociale Woningbouw, visiting research fellow aan de University of Cambridge, member van St. Catharine’s College, University of Cambridge, en research fellow aan CESifo Institute München.
