Media strategy (13 October)

Midterm career researchers are usually recognised as experts in a clearly defined field. This may result in increasing interest from the media to share knowledge and expertise with the general public. Both UG and UMCG have a Communication department to support researchers in preparing for a specific contact with journalists and other media. However, to develop more effective interactions with the media, it is important to understand why your story is interesting and for whom, and which communication strategy best suits your topic and you as researcher. The aim of this training is to better understand how the Dutch media operate and how to develop a strategy to increase your visibility among the general public. As the training focusses on the Dutch media, we expect participants to master the Dutch language sufficiently for an interview about their research.

Target audience

Midterm career researchers/PIs from all faculties who are willing to:

  • Communicate about their own research findings in the Dutch media
  • Act as expert in the Dutch media explaining research findings and news in their field of expertise from other researchers
