UG employees contribute ideas on code of conduct

In March, the social safety programme organised 10 focus groups in which 90 employees discussed the new code of conduct for employees. These sessions are part of the Employee Code of Conduct project.


Lecture on transgression and leadership: talk by Janine Meins about social safety

Thursday 20 March saw the first official activity of the new community of our Rosalind Franklin Fellows and Aletta Jacobs Chair holders. The meeting focused on transgression - crossing physical, mental or social boundaries - and the role of leadership in creating a safe environment.


Interactive English lecture about the Pain of Silence

On behalf of the Social Safety programme team and Lijst Calimero, we would like to invite you to an interactive lecture by Janine Meins, author of the book “Zwijgpijn”. She will discuss the consequences of transgressive behavior and the silence that often accompanies it. This lecture is part of the Well-Being Week, organized by Lijst Calimero, Lijst Sterk, and GSB, which aims to raise awareness of issues affecting student mental health and well-being.


Give your input for the staff Code of Conduct

We are working on developing a staff Code of Conduct for the University of Groningen, and your input is essential. That is why we, as part of the social safety programme, warmly invite you to participate in a focus group, where we will discuss what the content of this code should be. To gain the broadest possible perspective, we are looking for employees from all parts of the university. We welcome insights and experiences from both support staff and academic staff.


Dialogue tables to start! Follow-up to social safety work conference

As a follow-up to the working conference on social safety, we have started dialogue tables. These are small-scale discussion rounds in which students and staff explore with each other what is needed to structurally embed social safety within the UG. After the major working conference on 27 May 2024, follow-up talks were held with staff on Monday 21 October 2024 and 13 January 2025.


Call: join the discussion on creating a socially safe work culture at the UG

From the Social Safety programme, which started in January, one of the activities was, the Social Safety Working Conference on 27 May 2024. During this conference, which was attended by 120 people from all faculties and departments, we started a conversation about our norms and values regarding social safety. Linked to this, we will organise dialogue tables with students and staff on the desired culture in the coming years.

From dialogue to action: Review of follow-up working conference on social safety

On Monday 21 October 2024, the follow-up meeting of the Social Safety Working Conference took place in the Tammes Room of the University Library. During this afternoon, 20 employees interacted with each other about what it takes to create a socially safe, inclusive, and respectful university together.


SAFE SPACE opens the call: theatre performance on social safety

On 16 October 2023, the University of Groningen and Hanzehogeschool, in collaboration with Time Out Foundation, organised the interactive theatre performance SAFE SPACE for students and staff. This performance was all about social safety and provided a space for open, honest conversations about personal boundaries, mutual respect, and approachability.


Code of Conduct for students

Social safety campaign launch

The Social Safety Campaign was launched this week. The campaign is aimed at stimulating discussion regarding social safety among students and staff members. Our campaign slogan is as follows: ‘Even if it's probably not your task, just ask.’
