HR Excellence in Research

Europe should remain attractive to researchers from all over the world. Open recruitment, an attractive work environment, mobility and career opportunities are important elements in this. The European Commission has introduced the HR Excellence in Research logo, which it awards to institutions that demonstrate that they endorse these principles and pay continuous attention to improving and implementing them.

The University of Groningen has selected 21 key principles set out in the ‘ European Charter for Researchers and The Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers’.These principles form the basis of the strategy and action plan for researchers. The plan has been submitted to the European Commission and the University has been awarded the HR Excellence in Research logo.

Why does the UG have this quality label?
The process of systematically examining the organization’s HR policy for researchers provides good insights into further opportunities for improvement in this area for the UG. It connects to our improvement cycle included in the quality assurance system. In the long term, obtaining the quality label makes completing EU requests easier, as the paragraphs on recruitment, selection, dealing with ethical issues, training policy, and so on no longer need to be filled in separately. We can then refer to the documentation that the UG collated for the HR Excellence in Research quality label. In addition, the quality label is a useful way of showing potential new staff members that the UG offers a good working environment for researchers.
Strategy and action plan
