About us University College Groningen

Your Student Mentors

You will be paired with one of our more experienced students, who will be your student mentor. Your mentor will provide peer-to-peer support within UCG. They will advise you on all kinds of student-life related questions and needs during your first semester. Your mentor will help you get acquainted with not only UCG as a Faculty but also the University of Groningen as a whole and the city of Groningen.

Lorena

Hello everyone! I hope you’re all ready & excited for your extraordinary journey at UCG to begin!! My name is Lorena, and I will provide you with support & guidance to ease your transition into Uni life :) So, allow me to introduce myself briefly: I am 19 years old, and I come from the wonderful city of Barcelona. As a proper Spaniard, I love food, dancing with my friends and chilling on the beach. However, I’m also very involved in academics and student life, and that is why I’m the Chair of our Study Association Caerus, the heart of UCG ;) Together, I’m sure we will build an even greater and tighter community, so I can’t wait to meet each and every one of you. Here’s to an amazing and unforgettable year!

Gianluca

Hi! My name is Gianluca, I'm 20 and I'm from Italy. Currently I'm a first year here at UCG and I'll be one of your mentors this upcoming year! In university, I'm studying A.I., but outside of school I have many interests, such as cooking, sports and literature. Coming from a small town in Italy, here I immediately fell in love with the student environment and the cute city of Groningen, not without difficulty. Starting such a new chapter of our life can be challenging, but it will always go well when we help each other out. I am looking forward to meeting you all and I'll always be happy to help!

Tems
Tems

Hey, I'm Temwani Bruhns, but you can call me Tems. I am 19, Afro-European, born and raised in Namibia and a few other countries in between. The outdoors truly captivates me, especially on sunny days. Fun and useless facts about me, I am double-jointed in my fingers and if I were a vegetable, I would be a potato. Not because I am German but because potatoes can be so many different things, which I can relate to. Open-mindedness and willingness to lend a helping hand are values that I hold dear. I am excited to take on the role of a mentor and provide support, drawing from my own experiences in a similar position. Can’t wait to welcome you into the UCG community and to Groningen.

Adam
Adam

Hello! My name is Adam Bahelka. I will be soon entering my third year at UCG with a free major. However, most of my courses are a combination of Economics and IT. Besides my studies, I am also in the UCG Faculty Council and I like to keep active. I play for the UCG football team, I like to hang out with my roommates and I occasionally debate competitively. You may also know me from my Student Buddy position!:-)

Jasmine

Hey! My name is Jasmine, and I’m going to be one of your Student Mentors next year at UCG. A little more about me. I am in my 2nd year of UCG majoring in Social Sciences. I come from the UK and I’m very involved in academic and social life at University, being part of UCG's music committee. When I am not attending lectures, studying or grabbing coffee with fellow UCGers I am probably windsurfing or sailing. Besides water sports, I love music, dancing, yoga, photography and relaxing with my friends in the park or the lake. If you have any questions don’t hesitate in contacting me for anything! I’ll always be happy to help. Enjoy the rest of your summer and I hope to see you next year in my mentor group!

Ema
Ema

Hello there, class of 2026!

My name is Ema, I’m 19 (though I’ll be 20 already when we meet) and I’m from Prague, Czechia. I am a free major here at UCG, focusing on law and technology.

While the whole major and track thing might still be a bit confusing to you, don’t worry. I am here to explain all about the RUG, UCG, but also help you out with balancing your life outside of academia. When I’m not at Hoendiepskade, you’ll find me swimming, hanging out with friends or desperately trying to revive that one plant I forgot to water for two months. Both as a mentor and UCG’s next Student Assessor, I

am super excited to guide you through the ride of a lifetime and help you with whatever comes along the way.

For now, enjoy the summer, don’t forget to sign up for the Introweek and remember, you’ll do great.

See you soon!

Ema
