WinterWelVaart

Christmas is the most wonderful time of the year. But before it comes to that, the city of Groningen has something else to offer. Namely: WinterWelVaart. It’s become almost a tradition: on the last weekend before Christmas, the quaysides of the Hoge and Lage der A are filled with charter ships during the atmospheric WinterWelvaart event.

With their century old warehouses and stately buildings, the Der A’s are among the loveliest spots in the city at any time of the year. But during the weekend of 16 to 18 December, the canals and quaysides will be even more photogenic than ever. Specially for WinterWelVaart, there will be a whole host of mainly historic and atmospherically lit ships.

There will be lots to do on the ships themselves and on the quaysides. The ships will be the setting for intimate concerts, exhibitions and performances, while on shore there will be tastings, a Christmas market and kids’ activities. Click here for more information on this event.
