UCG student Janine Brouwer nominated for ECHO Award 2025

03 November 2025

We are proud to share that our UCG student Janine Brouwer has been nominated for the ECHO Award 2025, a recognition of her inspiring dedication to equity, inclusion, and positive social impact.

With her Lebanese-Dutch background and journey from Beirut to the Netherlands at 17 years old, Janine brings a powerful global perspective to everything she does. Her work is driven by a deep commitment to social justice, diversity, and inclusion.

As Executive Board Secretary and journalist at Al Nashat, she amplifies marginalized voices and leads refugee initiatives that connect students with displaced communities. As Secretary of the UNICEF Student Group’s Culture Committee, she co-organises creative fundraising events supporting climate-smart projects in Madagascar and relief efforts in Sudan and Gaza.
Through her activism and journalistic storytelling, Janine shows how compassion, creativity, and community can inspire real change — both locally and globally.

The ECHO Award is a national Dutch distinction that honors students from non-Western or refugee backgrounds who show outstanding leadership and make a meaningful social impact in promoting a more equitable society.
