GIS on the LWP

It is possible to use QGIS on the Linux workspace or on your own device. With QGIS you can make maps and spatial analysis for research and/or the enrichment of your publications.

How do I start QGIS?
Quantum GIS is an excellent open source en free GIS software package which has a similar functionality as the corporate package ArcGIS
New users using LWP repository:
Open a terminal and type:
sudo apt-get install Qgis

Or follow the instrucions.

Can I add functionalities?
QGIS has a lot of useful plugins which add different functionalities. You can find these plugins here:

Is there an introductory training online ?
The software pakage is for free. Therefore it is easy to install it on your device for Windows, Linux and Mac. The courses can be found here or on QGIS Tutorials.
