RUG VentureLab Weekend 2014

In 2014 we held our first edition of the VentureLab Weekend between June 20 and June 22. It was co-organized by several associations and centers within the University of Groningen: Ebf, Career Services, UGCE and the VentureLab North.

Neil Sheridan

Neil Sheridan is the director of Kettering University's TechWorks, its advanced technology business accelerator program. Neil has 20 years of experience working in technology-based innovation and consulting. He serves as a bio-energy and green technology SBIR/STTR innovation grants reviewer for a major federal agency. Neil advises and coaches start-up and growth companies on developing their businesses. He has lived and worked in New York, Chicago and Detroit as well as on expatriate assignments in Switzerland, Germany, Ireland, the United Kingdom, and China.
Neil's industry experience includes technology ventures, automotive, banking, healthcare / life sciences, government, universities, and non-profit leadership. His assignments have included senior management, business/product launch, international collaboration, vendor management, and business development assignments. Neil has also served as an interim manager, keynote speaker, meeting facilitator, and trainer.
Neil Sheridan is an Adjunct Professor of Management at Kettering University. He holds an MBA from New York University in Finance with additional studies in international business and relations.

Dr. Englis began her career at Berry College in 1999 and currently serves in a leadership role as Professor and Chair of the Management and Marketing Departments of the Campbell School of Business, Berry College.  Dr. Englis is also a research fellow at the Dutch Institute for Study of Knowledge Intensive Entrepreneurship (Nikos) at the University of Twente, The Netherlands.  Having earned her undergraduate and M.B.A from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, she received her Ph.D. in Business Administration from The University of Memphis in 2000.
Dr. Englis leads the Entrepreneurship Program at Berry College, which has helped her students start more than 85 businesses over the past 14 years.  Locally, she has unselfishly worked to help a number of non-profit organizations including; The Free Clinic of Rome, The William S. Davies Homeless Shelter, The DeSoto Theater, Mercy Senior Care, and the South Rome Redevelopment Corporation to complete business, marketing, and strategic plans.

Dr. Basil G. Englis, Ph.D. is the Richard Edgerton Professor of Marketing and Chair of the Marketing Department in the Campbell School of Business at Berry College. He is also a Research Fellow at NIKOS – The Dutch Institute for the Study of Knowledge-Intensive Entrepreneurship, at the University of Twente, The Netherlands.
Dr. Basil is also a Managing Partner at Mind/Share, Inc., a boutique research firm that provides a full suite of custom research services to its clients including a broad range of qualitative and quantitative methodologies. It has the experience, resources, and the capabilities to design and field methodologically sound consumer research, to collect data following well-established scientific approaches, to analyze and interpret data, to effectively communicate the project’s findings, and to meet project deadlines.

Dr. Walsh is Ed Black Professor of Entrepreneurship at University of New Mexico and a speaker and industry consultant in the nanotechnology and microtechnology industries of China, Brazil, Australia and Germany. When he's not traveling the globe, Walsh is a full-time professor at the University of New Mexico's Anderson Schools of Management and co-directs ASM's Management of Technology program. There, he teaches classes in entrepreneurship, oversees students providing consulting to companies, and serves as an advisor for companies looking to commercialize technology - including technologies developed within the state's national labs.

Koen Atema is Founder @ Launch Café and marketeer bij YEAH! In 2007 won Koen de landelijke prijs voor Leren Ondernemen en hij was in 2010 genomineerd voor de European Enterprise Awards. Denk bijvoorbeeld aan: nieuwe verdienmodellen, het vernieuwen/ (her)positioneren van bedrijven en onderscheiden in concurrerende markten.

Niek Huizenga is Founder @ Launch Café, entrepreneur, consultant and trainer. In 2012 he co-founded the award winning startup center Launch Cafe. Located in the city center of Groningen (Netherlands) Launch Cafe supports over 30 innovative startups. Launch Cafe offers excellent facilities, organises network events, provides training programs and runs a pre seed investment fund. As an independent professional he offers services in Consultancy for startups and existing companies (Business model, Market strategy, Business operations, Company valuation, Investment) and his current clients include Tvilight BV, Ytec Medical BV, Chordify BV; and Training and coaching for students and entrepreneurs in Business strategy, Entrepreneurship, Innovation and Investment. He works together with University of Groningen (Netherlands), Hanzehogeschool Groningen (Netherlands), North West University (South Africa), Bake for Life College (Uganda), University of Parakou (Benin), Tanzanian Public Service College (Tanzania).

Since the 1st of October 2012, Arnoud Luttikhuis, founder and owner of the company is connected to theMariTIM LNG Passenger Vessel project. This joint German/Dutch innovation programme is aimed at the development of both a new build inland party boatand the conversion of a seagoing ferry, each of both with state-of-the artLNG propulsion concepts. Arnoud Luttikhuis' involvement is focused upon facilitating the process from basic design towards certification, classification and submission of the project to the authorities concerned. In cooperation with other partners in the project, national and international legislation and regulation - related to safety, bunkering procedures and certification – is being processed into a compliant framework with a view to the necessary permits and exemptions.

Arnoud Punt is a founder at Aecius juridisch advies that helpt ondernemers juridische problemen op te lossen en te voorkomen. Daarbij richt Aecius juridisch advies richt zich op alle juridische aspecten rond het voeren van een bedrijf. Wij adviseren onder meer op het gebied van ondernemingsrecht, (ICT)contractenrecht en arbeidsrecht. Wij werken ook samen met de Hanze Hogeschool Groningen, tientallen ICT-bedrijven en andere kennisintensieve bedrijven.

Kees Wiegers is founder at KWIC Healthcare stelt zich ten doel om de kwaliteit van de zorg te verbeteren met behulp van Innovatieve Informatie en Communicatie Technologie (ICT). Speerpunt hierbij is patiëntveiligheid met behulp van sensortechnologie. KWIC ontwikkelt systemen op basis van de klantvraag. Wij organiseren het gehele Business Development project van idee, naar requirements, zoeken technologie partners, ontwikkelen en implementeren van het systeem met bijbehorende processen, inclusief het vermarkten en het zoeken van distributie partners. We doen dit door softwareontwikkeling, procesverbetering, advisering, interim management en implementatie van innovatieve ICT producten (sensortechnologie, barcode en RFID, vital signsmonitoring).
